The Sugar Creek Arts Festival is here! This Saturday, June 8th from 10 am to 5 pm and Sunday, June 9th from 11 am to 4 pm 128 extremely talented artists will be showcasing their original creations on the streets of Uptown Normal. Jan Brandt from Jan Brandt Gallery and Melinda Barry from Pomona66 will be setting up shop at OhmFit. They will have completed works for you to shop and will also be accepting custom orders all weekend.
Melinda (Mindy) Barry is the owner of Pomona66, a small online based jewelry business. Mindy’s frustration from not being able to purchase bracelets in stores that fit her dainty wrists pushed her to start making her own, which she has been doing for about 20 years now. While discussing her journey to becoming an entrepreneur she stated, “My mom always loved beaded jewelry too, particularly Native American, so I started making pieces for me and my family. I would sometimes get stopped on the street and asked where I got what I was wearing, and eventually started making jewelry to sell.” As a California native, Mindy draws her inspiration from colors, textures, and shapes in the natural world. Her love for nature and minimalist style are apparent in her rustic, detailed designs. You can shop Pomona66 at The Yoga Studio/Julie Muelemans Gallery (1106 E. Bell St, Bloomington, IL) and Main Gallery 404 (404 N. Main St, Bloomington, IL).
Jan Brandt, the founder of Jan Brandt Gallery (JBG) is a woman of many talents. She is an accomplished fiber artist, printmaker, author, and painter whose work has been printed in multiple publications and shown across the United States. Jan holds a Bachelor of Environmental Design and a Bachelor of Fine Arts, both from Illinois State University. Her work combines science and art, with biological and intricate aesthetic detailing. JBG is located in the former Coca-Cola Bottling Plant in Bloomington, which houses several other artist studios. We are honored to sell her Art of Where collection in our boutique, which includes leggings, headbands, tops, and shorts with her whimsical paintings printed on them. She will be offering a free gift with every purchase of her work, so don’t miss out on all of the amazing goodies that we will have at OFA this weekend!
This festival is one of the most popular gatherings of arts and crafts vendors in the Midwest, so you don’t want to miss it. There will also be live performances, kids activities, touch-a-truck, a bike safety event, climbing wall, and bounce houses all for free. OhmFit will be open from 10 am to 4 pm on Saturday and 11 am to 2 pm on Sunday. Join us for a day of family fun, beautiful art, hand crafted works, and of course lots of shopping!
