Mark your calendars for cheat day because the 3rd annual Uptown Covered in Chocolate is this Thursday from 4:00 to 7:00! Lizzy Seltzer along with handmade sweet treats from her bakery Cake Balls by: Lizzy will be at OFA. We will be offering delicious cake ball samples, champagne, a sale rack stocked with active wear essentials, as well as our limited time sports bra trunk show. Many shops and eateries in the area will also be offering complimentary sips, snacks, and sales, so join us in supporting small businesses within our community for tasty treats and a dose of retail therapy!

When asked about her desire to start this establishment, Sheri stated, “There’s one simple reason I’m opening my studio: to get more people to do yoga. We live in a 24/7 connected world and rarely have enough time to pause and get in touch with ourselves. Some people think they can’t do yoga because they’re not flexible, athletic, or calm enough. Guess what? Yoga is literally for everyone. Leave your preconceived ideas at the door. Yoga can be loud, quiet, fun, serious, physical, or contemplative.” Sheri offers a variety of classes to meet your yogi needs, including “a boot camp class for those that want to get physical, a movement and meditation class for those that want to pause and reconnect with themselves, and a warm vinyasa flow that provides a fun and effective blend of the two.”

The 100th Launch of BODYPUMP

On Saturday, January 14, Les Mills International is coordinating the 100th release of its renowned exercise program BodyPump. This launch is taking place globally, and the Workout Company on Kays Drive is the only fitness club in town offering this exciting event.

BodyPump is a total body workout done with the help of light to moderate weights and high repetition. This class is carried out in a group setting and is designed to get you lean, toned, and fit in a short amount of time.  Exercising among others who are determined and passionate about being the healthiest version of themselves is an amazing motivator, and the hit music and encouraging instructors help boost the fun. Q&A with Emily from MyLeanBody Bootcamp

Since the inception of OhmFit Activewear, we have been dedicated to doing trunk shows and pop-up shops. Our next exhibition will be hosted by MyLeanBody Boot Camp in Bloomington, IL, on December 16th from 5 to 10:30 AM and December 17th from 7 to 10 AM. This boot camp is more than a training facility; It is a way of life. MLBBC has evolved into a community of powerful and committed women who work every day towards being the healthiest versions of themselves. Their team is extremely supportive, encouraging, and will stick by your side throughout your journey to reaching your personal wellness goals. We chatted with Emily, who is the founder of this gym, and she gave us some insight into the birth of MLBBC, conquering herfears, productivity hacks, and so much more.

As a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up?

An orthodontist; That changed after I job shadowed a dentist, and saw a root canal. I knew that I was not going down that path! Thank goodness for job shadowing!

Did you enjoy P.E. in school? Why/why not?

Yes, I did. I loved to run around and play.  I was not the best as sports when I was a kid, but I did love to try and had a lot of fun with everything that I did.  I was a good runner too and loved being one of the fastest in my class.  I have always been very active – my mom power walked and I remember rollerblading with her as a kid.  I did not ever want to stay at home, so just being on the go was a way of life.

What ignited the spark in you to start a new business venture?

My husband was the catalyst. It was not until we started dating that I seriously got into lifting weights and being strong.  Once he taught me about weight lifting and how to lift heavy weights, I was hooked!  Working out together was like our date every day.  It was after about a year of pushing myself and seeing changes in my body, that I realized that I wanted to show other women what is was like to enjoy being healthy and fit.  I don’t think that as women we are taught that we can be very strong, and most of us don’t know how great it can feel to majorly push our bodies. As we realize what we can do physically, it runs over into other aspects of our lives. Our confidence gets better, our jobs get better as we gain the courage to go for promotions, and we start to make our relationships (with ourselves and others) better.  We realize that we have total control over our lives and can do whatever we set our minds to.  Women are strong and incredible, but so often we don’t realize our potential and that is my mission: to empower women to be strong – physically, mentally, emotionally, and to go for whatever they want!

What makes your boot camp unique in comparison to others in this field, and why can’t it be copied?

MLBBC is comprised of only women, and I love that aspect.  We get to come in, work hard, get sweaty, and push ourselves without being self-conscious.  I keep the atmosphere positive and empowering.  We all support and motivate everyone – so no matter what your fitness level, you start where you are, and push yourself to progress from there.  I love the ladies that come to the gym, and I have a personal relationship with all of them!  I sincerely care if they are feeling good and getting the results that they want. I want the best for all the members at the gym!

What is your greatest fear, and how do you manage fear/stress?

I believe that what we think about, we create, so I do everything that I can to focus on what I can control and to stay positive.  I work hard and I give as much love as possible to everyone that I meet.  I believe that everything happens for a reason, and no matter what comes along, I will just keep going!

What passions and commitments define your business?

The main focus of my business is strength. I knew when I got strong and felt so amazing that I needed to share it.  I wanted all women to feel the way I felt.  I wanted all women to know that they can do anything they set their mind to!

What values do your employees embody? What does your company contribute to the world?

My employees are incredible women!  They are strong and they love each MLBBC member as well.  We all want the ladies to get results, to feel great, and to realize just how incredible they are, so my team is supportive, loving, and motivating.

What has been your most satisfying moment in business?

Looking around my very own gym on the 3rd anniversary of boot camp starting.  There were about 73 women working out, pushing themselves, and loving it.  I was so proud to be able to do what I was doing, and so inspired by the love and motivation that surrounded me!  It was truly overwhelming and amazing.

What’s your secret to productivity?

DO something.  Take action, even if it is small action, and get the ball rolling.  If there is something that I have been putting off and it is still on my list, I start by checking off something else.  Once I have momentum from getting something done, I just go on to the next thing.  But the first step is to do SOME thing, even if it is just to get up and move. Once you have that initial energy going, it is so much easier to do something else!

How do you reward yourself for a job well done?

I love me time, and usually no woman gets enough of it.  I love to get a massage, take an Epsom salt bath, or just read a book.  Quiet time recharges me, so I know if I am super busy, sitting in my favorite chair and sipping tea will help me feel refreshed.  I also love spending time with my friends, so a lunch out or a long coffee date with a girlfriend takes my mind off everything else and allows me to have fun and be totally in the moment!
